If you have high blood pressure and would like to know what medications work best for you, then you maybe interested in our study.
Pharmacogenomic Evaluation of Antihypertensive Responses (PEAR)
What is the PEAR study?
• The PEAR study is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and is being conducted at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, the University of Florida in Gainesville, and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
• The study is designed to answer questions about how genes affect response to blood pressure treatment with Atenolol, a beta-blocker, and Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), a diuretic.
Who can participate?
• Men and women with high blood pressure between the ages of 18 and 65 who are otherwise healthy.
• Persons with a history of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, or kidney disease CANNOT participate.
• Persons currently taking blood pressure medication must be on NO more than 2 blood pressure medications to be eligible.
What are the benefits?
• Free lab tests, clinic visits and thorough blood pressure evaluation.
• Free high blood pressure medicine and blood pressure monitor.
• Those who qualify and complete the study will receive $350.00 for participation and transportation.
