Summary:
The Director of Regulatory Compliance has responsibility for ensuring regulatory compliance with all federal and state insurance regulations and statutes. You will review statutes and regulations to determine their effect on insurance products. Perform detailed, scheduled audits of existing insurance policy forms for all applicable states and products. Create and administer all aspects of filing policy forms. Investigate and resolve complex compliance matters related to insurance products and regulatory examinations. Review existing insurance programs and procedures to ensure continued compliance with statutes and regulations that apply to the insurance products.
You will work closely with State Product Managers and the Office of General Counsel to ensure regulatory compliance across the insurance product life cycle in a multi-state environment. You will assist in the assessment and responses to regulatory changes; assess trends to remain abreast of emerging market changes. You will create, maintain and update proprietary policy forms. Candidates are expected to possess superior presentation skills including the ability to articulate and support points of view across a broad spectrum of business issues.
You will establish clearly defined policies and procedures for regulatory compliance issue escalation, root cause analysis of operational issues and provide suggestions for implementation of processes to prevent future occurrences. Communicate regulatory compliance issues to associates via scheduled meetings and call meetings when issues require immediate attention. Develop internal and external regulatory compliance communications (informational and educational).
Major Responsibilities:
Hire, supervise, develop and coach Regulatory Compliance associates.
Develop, recommend and implement countrywide policy and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
Responsible for the development of strategic and tactical plans to respond to changing regulatory environment across multiple states.
Manage execution of operational strategies and performance to plan.
Conduct regulatory compliance reviews for all business units within the scope of responsibility.
Recognize and respond to emerging coverage and legal compliance issues.
Provide compliance answers to submitted queries from operational units.
Work closely with the General Counsel’s office coordinate changes and maintain compliance.
Monitor adherence to regulatory standards.
Serve as Insurance Operations Department liaison with various regulatory agencies.
Participate on cross-functional teams to implement and execute company initiatives.
Skill Requirements:
10+ years of legal or regulatory compliance management experience in an insurance company. Emphasis on Property and Casualty insurance is desirable.
Comprehensive knowledge of personal lines insurance industry, products and features.
Proven ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Consistently demonstrated qualities of diplomacy, problem solving and decisiveness.
Excellent leadership, coaching, project management and mentoring skills.
Ability to accomplish goals through influence management and motivation.
Strong organizational, written and verbal communication and proven analytical problem solving skills.
Ability to design and deliver technical training programs to support staff.
Microsoft office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project)
Desired Education:
Any combination of training and/or work experience that will enable the incumbent to possess the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. A general qualification guideline for positions in this class is a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field plus five years of experience in the insurance industry or related field. A Juris Doctorate is highly desirable.
