"Walk for Life, Every Breath Counts" Asthma Awareness Run/Walk

The "Walk for Life, Every Breath Counts", is a 5k Asthma Awareness Run/Walk. It will be held in Grant Park on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Registration will begin at 8:30am with main events beginning at 9:30am. Proceeds from this 5K Run/Walk will assist children with obtaining scholarships to attend Camp Breathe Easy, where they will be educated about the disease of Asthma, what can cause an asthma attack and what things to avoid, how to take medications for asthma, also proceeds will purchase Nuberlizers(breathing machines) for the children whose parents cannot purchase them due to unemployment and/or lost of medical insurance & benefits, with the Nuberlizer in the home children can receive treatments immediately, visits to the emergency room will decrease drastically, along with the number of days missed at school due to an asthma attack, and finally, to enhance the Asthma program at West End Medical Center where we are becoming more and more knowledgable of the science of the disease of asthma and how to educate and treat our patients suffering with asthma.

WEMC is a 501C-3 community health center offers the following primary healthcare services: Adult medicine/Family practice, OB/Gyn, Pediactrics, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Quest Lab, X-ray; disease management programs: Asthma, Breast Screening & Cervical Cancer (BCCP) and Susan B. Komen programs, Cardiovascular and diabetes management; other services includes Social Services, Health Education and the Pharmacy Patient Assistance Program.
